When I started taking Verelan 240SR in April of 2000 the attacks were bad. Only once a day but would hit about an hour after I went to sleep. My Doc put me on 1 a day and within three days I dropped to just shadows, so I went to 2xd and the attacks quit entirely.
You might talk to your Doc about doubling the dose and see if the Verelan alone would stop the attacks altogether. Most on this site that the Verapamil works for, take 480mg a day for relief. Just thought you might want to look into this.
