It's an old drug and works well to stop the pain and break the episodic cycle. Normally they give it IV q 8 hrs for about three days. If the cycle isn't broken then, they'll give it IM until the cycle is broken. It's an ergotomine and I've taken a truck load of it. An injection of it usually keeps the HAs at bay for about 8 hours.
There's also Cafagot (comes in pill form)but be sure to take it with phenergan because it causes naseau.
I have bad side effects from Imitrex, so I take ergotomine for the beast. I carry Cafagot with me everywhere I go. Thanks to topamax, I don't have to take it much, but I don't leave home without it.
Wishing you pain free days and nights and real soon. Hugs BD
