Yes, it seems that for the majority of clusterheads, oxygen works very well. Most use it at a flowrate of 8 to 10 liters a minute, but I guess that depends how high your lung capacity is and how fast you breathe.
You were fortunate that your doctor was aware of the effectiveness of oxygen, and how it should be used. I have read too many posts here of doctors who are reluctant to prescribe it, for some bizarre reason, or prescribe a flow rate too low, or the use of nasal cannulae for administering rather than a full-face, tightly-sealed non-rebreather mask.
Sounds like your doc is a keeper.
