Thanks for having the guts (if that's the right word) and the genuine concern to post this message, with which I absolutely and totally agree.
I have recommended the message board to a couple of newly-found cluster headache acquaintances -- they went to the board once and never again, and don't understand what it is that I find there. I also respond to some of the entries in the guest book, recommend the MB, but the people never seem to contribute, and I wonder why. I think it's because they just don't take it seriously.
Truthfully, I don't think Dr. Kudrow's view should be the determining factor as to what goes on here -- I mean, what has he done for us lately, or ever -- but the essence of his reaction deserves serious attention. My own view, obviously open to criticism, is that there's far, far too much "personal stuff" and totally irrelevat banter taking up space on the board, so much so that the real concerns get buried, and lost and almost become secondary.
There are now three, count 'em THREE, headache chat rooms. There is e-amil. There are telephones. It's not as if a more prudent use of the message board elimates all contact.
I hope your message, Mary, generates a lot of controversy and discussion, for I think you've raised a crucial point here, a discussion of which could and should influence our future direction, both here and with OUCH.
Again, thanks for taking the time to put this forward in your usual thoughtful and nonthreatening way. It really needed to be said!
