If your post is directed to one person, and one person only, e-mail might be a better option. If your post is something that you think will be of some benefit to others, then fine... go ahead and post.
And, no, I don't mean it has to be restricted to purely technical info... of course not. Sympathy, shows of support, venting, inspirational messages and the like... all can be of benefit to more than one person.
But DAMN! Sure is a lot of stuff archived here that could have been handled by e-mail! E-mail is one of the greatest inventions in history, and it's just as easy to use as this message board.
Please think about it.
