I have had CH for over 15 years. Though I have never tried Imitrex I have been prescibed numerous other medications. The medication that truly works for me is Cafergot Tablets, commonly known as Wigraine, Novar. Basically it is ergotamine and caffiene.
I finally found a Doctor that understood what a CH really is. Her name is Kathleen Digre, University of Utah Hospital. I had to wait over 18 months for the appointment, but the wait was well worth it. Ever since I have been on this medication the pain only last about 10-15 minutes. I take the medication at the onset of my symptoms.
While on the medication you are only supposed to take 10 per week. No alcohol, no extra caffeine or chocolate. I have only taken a maximum of two a day. Sometimes after taking a tablet at the onset of the first headache I wont need another one that day.
It works for me. Just thought I would share the info.
