Seems you are getting two things at the same time, clusters AND Trigemenal Neuralgia.You ARE unlucky!
You are lucky though, your neuro is on the ball, but don't wait too long to tell her/him if the Tegretol should not work. The side effects are very unpleasant. I had it some time (misdiagnosed) and spent several months in a daze.
The tegretol does not deaden the nerve; it is an anti seizure medication. If it IS TN, Tegretol should help, at least for that part of the pain.
