The best way to find out how to help is to ask him when he is not under seige. My hubby is also a sufferer. I have learned to watch his non-verbal communication for my cue on what to do. The closer he paces to the front door is when I get our son and the car keys for a trip to the ER. William doesn't necessarily need peace and quiet-just for me to get the heck out of the way. It's hard to sit/stand by and watch someone you love hurt but he will let you know what he needs. The frustration you feel is probably common among us supporters. This last cycle was pretty bad for both of us but with the right combo of meds, a neurologist who knew what he was doing-despite a delay with one that I can only describe as a "goober" (my favorite word these days)and the support we found here, we made it through. And we know with the next one, we are surrounded by people who have "been there, done that" for some of the best support that can be found.
