I've been on Topamax for about 2 years now. I was chronic for 2 (or 3 can't remember) years before that and had tried EVERYTHING including surgery and NOTHING worked. Once on the topamax - my headaches (except for a break-thru occasionally) stopped. I've been in remission almost from the time I started taking it. I started on 75mg and have been up to 400mg depending on the break-thrus. Right now I'm on 200mg per day.
I've lost weight on it (which I needed to after all the steriods that caused a lot of weight gain in the years before). Other than that, I was told to watch out for memory loss and a few other things that I've not noticed (I don't think :) ).
My neuro says he's had quite a bit of luck in controlling CH with this drug, but that since I was the worse case he's ever treated he's been very pleased with my progress. He's also had some success in treating migraines with it.
I guess this is like every other med with us - it works for some and not for others. But I don't miss a dose. It just works too well for me. I'm human again and enjoy every day since I've been on it. I keep cafegot, O2 and other things (just in case) for the break-thrus, but can't remember when I've even had them filled. I just don't have that many any more.
I wish you the best and wish that it had worked for you, but....
