Have you tried Verapamil (a Calcium channel blocker) as a preventative? Many clusterheads have good success with it. But you have to convince your doc to go higher than 360 mg / day, the maximum that is used to treat heart diseases.
Prednisone is useful as a short burst (until the Verapamil kicks in), but from all I heard its side effects are nasty if taken for a prolonged time.
