Hi Karyn, BobJ

Propranolol HCl (one brand name is Inderal) is a beta blocker, intended to treat high blood pressure. It is also a good preventative for migraine, but not very successful for clusters.

The preventative of first choice for CH are Calcium channel blockers, especially Verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verlan and 50 other brand names). These too are used to treat high BP, but for CH higher doses may be necessary, the therapeutic range is usually 360 to 920 mg.

Naratriptan (Amerge, Naramig) is lasting rather 4 to 6 than 12 hours. As it is slow to kick in it is useless as a abortive, but quite useful as a preventative, to get you through the night.
