Rachel, you said the battle imagery of one of my previous posts called to you...
something you want to share?
I fight two different styles of combat. Boff weapons which are made out of PVC
pipe and pipe foam covered in duck tape. Those weapons weigh only ounces, but
I fight in every style, sword and shield, two handed, pole arm, dagger, axe,
two sword. That sport does not require armor because it is a lightest touch
system. It is light and fast and very aerobic.
The other style is what is used in the Society for Creative Anacronism (SCA),
where the weapons are made of rattan, big hunks of bamboo, and armor is required.
I fight sword and shield and also polearm. My polearm is fairly light, only 2 lbs
or so. My sword probably weighs more than my polearm what with the hand guard, and
then the shield weighs at least 8 lbs, or at least it feels like it does at the end
of the day. Combat involves a lot of smashing into the enemy with brute force and
whacking them as hard as you can.
Great fun. :)
