I have been on it for about a year now. I tried vepramil 480mg but it did nothing for me and the side effects killed me. I am on 200mg of topamax. My neuro said the key thing to avoid side effects is to go on it slowely. I went up 25 mg every 2 weeks untill I reached 200mg. No problems. However, the topamax did nothing for me as a preventative by itself. My neuro kept me on it and added lithium now 900mg a day. We achieved pain free status and stopped the topamax because we assummed it was the lithium doing it all. When I did that very shortly after my ha returned. So I am back on topamax. However, I have not been able to achieve the complete pain free status I had before I went off the topamax. So It seems to work wonders as a combo drug as well also. Good luck with your trial.
