Well, I am almost 52 and have had CHs for probably 20 years although I didn't know what they were for years (those awful sinus headaches, right). I also get hormonal migraines and have for years, usually around my period. Yes, I still have not entered menopause! I really don't know anyone else with CHs, male or female, but what I've read here says it's roughly 80% male; 20% female. Now I will agree that many women are misdiagnosed. Right now I use O2 to stop my clusters and Imitrex to stop the migraines. When I am in a cluster cycle, I also get migraines along with them and naturally I usually have my period right at the same time. In fact, I have 4 clusters last night after going 4 days without any.
My advice is to hang in there. It sounds like your doctor is on pretty much the right track. Keep reading these posts and you will learn so much!
As far as a hormone/cluster link: there is a definite link between migraines and hormones but from my vantage point, nothing with clusters. Clusters are just a really, really strange phenomenon and like some others who post here, I am not sure "headache" really covers it anyway. There is not much research on clusters and I bet none on hormonal connections.
