I get ice picks along with CHs. The pick is an intense stabbing pain that lasts a second or so, recurrs about once a minute and can go on for hours. Time of day doesn't seem to matter. CHs are another matter. Mine are almost always at night and start above my eye and slowly spread to my temple and upper jaw. I liken the pain to surgical removal of my eye and socket with a dull knife and no anesthetic. The pain is continuous and lasts about an hour. I don't know if the ice pick is there during CH, probably is, but I doubt I'd notice it. To your questions; no,I don't think you have CH. The ice pick is bad enough tho. People tend to look at you like your crazy when you yelp, gasp, curse, etc. Timewise, I was chronic in my 40s and it went on for years. I got through it tho, am 59 now and only have one or two cycles a year. I've seen too many docs misdiagnose CH; maybe it's time to find another doc.
