It is by prescription only. My insurance only paid for the first 6 months of equipment rental, but still pays for o2 refills. The equip. rental was $30/mo, I then bought it for $175 (includes the regulator, stand and 2 tanks). The refills are $15 each. You basically just drop off the two empties and pick up two full ones. Each tank will treat approx. 4 - 6 attacks. You definately need both tanks for back-up purposes. The company I get this from is called Home Health Corp of Amer. (HHCA)
