Nancy,
I do whatever it takes to make sure I have a stockpile
of Imitrex. We are taking about life or death here...
I use multiple doctors to get my scripts, and end up
paying cash for about half of it. But have all 3 types.
50mg tabs (should get 100's and break them up)
20mg nasal
6mg injections
While I am waiting for my preventatives to kick in,
started Predisone and Verapamil on Monday, I use it
in the following way.
Morning: I get two in the morning, one around 6am, the
other around noon. The key with these ones (as I am
at work) is to abort them as soon as possible. At
the first serious sign (move from shadow to CH, nasal
drip, droppy eyelid) I use a nasal spray and 1/2
a 50mg tablet. I find that if I don't use the 1/2
tablet they come back in 3 hours.
Evening: I get two at night, one around 8pm the other
around midnight or 2am. These are much more painful,
usually start around 7 and go to 8 or 9 very quickly.
I don't mess around with these ones, 6 mg injection and
1/2 a 50mg tablet.
With this approach I am never in serious pain for
more than 15-20 minutes and can basically lead a
productive life. (I am an executive officer at a
public company)
Of course the only real solution is to find a
preventative treatment that really works...
But in the meantime... IMHO, lie, cheat, steal, mortgage
the house... whatever it takes, make sure you have
your Imitrex. No-one should have to live with the
daily pain we feel and until the insurance companies
and doctors really understand us we are going to
have to "bend" the rules.
Both your doctor and your insurance company should
approve 2 6mg per day injections. Then all you need
is to find another doctor who will approve 2 20mg
per day nasal sprays...
Fight for it, we deserve a PF life! Joe (east/west)
