Story for Toby;
The shop owner came out and fixed a sign to his door ‘Puppies for Sale’ and went back in to wait.
Soon a little boy came in and asked how much the puppies were and the shop owner said that they were forty dollars. The little boy reached into his pocket and pulled out all his change. ‘Mister, I have two dollars and thirty-seven cents, I can pay you fifty cents every week until we are even. Can I see the puppies’? The man smiled and called out ‘Maggie’ and out of the back room came Maggie followed by four scampering little balls of fur. Just then another little ball of fur came out of the back room also, not quite as fast as the others but his little tail was wagging as fast as any of them. The little boy imeaditly burst out and said ‘that’s the one, I want him’ pointing to the fifth and slower puppy. The man looked down and said I’m sorry son but that puppy is not for sale. He has a bad leg, something is wrong with his hip socket and it cannot be fixed. Mister, that is the puppy I want, he is perfect. Son, that puppy will not be able to run, jump and play as well as any of the other puppies, you should really take one of the other ones. Just then the little boy bent down and rolled up his pant leg. On his leg was a large metal brace from the ankle up past his knee. Mister, I can’t run and play like the other boys either so I will understand what the puppy can and can’t do better than anyone. With a tear forming in his eye he said, ‘That puppy is yours, no charge, just remember to drop back here, whenever you want, so I can check up on both of you’.
