But perhaps this quote from the Wall Street Journal might clarify my earlier point:

Additionally, recent clinical studies have disproven the ability of St. John's Wort to treat moderate to severe depression, comfrey cannot be shown to provide the claimed benefits but is shown to destroy small veins in the liver and A. fangchi (used by the Chinese to treat asthma) has been linked to kidney failure and urinary cancer in Belgium. Canada, Australia and Germany have all banned its' use. Yohimbe has been linked to seizures and liver failure and ephedra to fatal heart attacks.
