Mark, your neuro seems not to be up to date on CH :-(
Inderal (Propranolol HCl) is a beta blocker, and often used successfully as a preventative for migraines, but for clusterheadaches it is often only marginally helpful.
However, for clusterheads the preventative of first choice are Calcium channel blockers (Verapamil). Many have good success with it, if taken in a high enough dose. (For heart conditions the Verapamil dose is usually up to 240 mg/day, in hard cases up to 360. But for CH the useful dose starts at 240 mg/day and it is often necessary to go much higher, up to 920.)
Although you've got 4 positive replies for Lithium, I suggest that you ask for Verapamil. If that does not help on itself you could add Lithium (as jonny does :-).
Good luck
