"Migraine" is a dirty word to a true clusterhead. I would say that 99.99% of the clusterheads here have been diagnosed as migrainers first. And, the meds for migrainers don't help clusterheads. [Imitrex doesn't help EVERY clusterhead - there are lots of them who can't tolerate it -- there are others who have had heart attacks from it -- there are still others for whom Imitrex doesn't even touch their pain.]
In our particular case, Mike was diagnosed many frustrating times to be a migrainer -- to the point that it caused him to believe that there was NO ONE to help him with his pain. I absorbed a lot of that frustration and agreed with him, knowing that what he was going through was NOT migraine. I thought if we heard the word "migraine" one more time, I would scream. When we found clusterheadaches.com, it was like an oasis in the desert for us. Finally, a place where he wouldn't be labelled a 'migrainer'. That word is like fingernails on a blackboard to a clusterhead.
It's like someone telling you, "Can't Dave just take an aspirin? Do you HAVE to leave?" or "Oh, right - my aunt's boyfriend's cousin used to get migraines too. It was food allergies that caused that. Can't Dave just STOP eating nuts?" Doesn't that get under YOUR skin, Ree? I would think that you, of all the supporters here would understand this distinction and want to have a place that you and Dave can visit that will talk solely about clusterheadaches.
