Irene,
That's a tough question, when the beast goes away for a while it's hard to remember, but I'll try. I'm in remission right now (5 glorious days) so the brain strain won't trigger anything. It was around 1985 (46 then) that I finally found a neuro that had heard of CH. Tho he'd never heard of O2 therapy and wanted to start with meds, he agreed to try the O2 first. O2 was and still is a Godsend. The only problem is if I don't get to it in the first 10 minutes, forget it. So the beast got clever and would let me sleep until it was fully enraged and by then it was too late for the O2. So around '91 - '92, off to the Jupiter Pain Clinic goes I. Doc asked the usual, prescribe lithium and ordered an MRI. I held off on the lithium (some not so nice side effects) 'till after the MRI. Never started the lithium and was completely CH free for A YEAR AND A HALF!!! Theraputic MRI, don't think so. No one else has reported remission after one. Anyway, I've been episodic ever since.
