the problem with a very high dose of verapamil for the treating doc is that that high doses we clusterheads usually need are n o t y e t completely legal, i.e. "allowed", i.e. commonly recommended and sufficiently tested by the medical authorities.
The "normal" highest dosis of vera cardiologists give are 240 mgs/day, and in very rare cases they give 320 mgs...
I'm 55 y old and was taking more than 900 mgs/day of vera for 4 1/2 months without a n y problem,
but I had to prescribe that quantity of vera myself because my neurologist refused to bear the responsability for it.
