I have had ch's since 1991. Mine come spring or fall, I have frequent sinus infections, and am allergic to mould/mildew. X-rays showed fairly normal sinus cavities, but deviated septum.
Nasal Imitrex has been the most effective treatment so far with relief coming after 5 to 15 minutes.
Late march I started again. I am nursing an 11 month old baby so I knew Imitrex was out of the question. In desperation I tried flonase that was in the cupboard. It worked in the same time as Imitrex! Checked with my family doctor who ok's its use morning and night as a preventative. To my amazement it has been working. One night I skipped a dose and sure enough, I was woken by a CH at the usual 4:30 am. I am now diligently using two 50 mcg doses on each side morning and night. I don't even need Tylenol now. In addition to being pain free the lingering feeling of physical malaise and anxiety about the next headache are gone.
Miraculously, I went scuba diving in the Bahamas two days ago in the middle of what would have been a month long episode of clusters.
I am thrilled, and pray that it will continue to work.
I hope this info may help someone else too.
