Glad you found us. I know I speak for everyone here when I say that this is singularly the best point of reference we have found to date in our research of the demon CH.
I don't know where you can find the Newsweek article, but you might want to look at the Medical Information page on this website that our creator DJ has included at the top of this page. It is excellent, a little technical in places, but it very accurately describes the hell the CHers go through. It will be good ammunition for your dad to take to his doctor when seeking treatment for this often unrecognized condition.
I am a supporter of a CH sufferer so I am the researcher in our family, as you are. My advice to you is to turn yourself into a sponge and start reading. I have been able to help my husband through his last cycle and, as spring approaches, feel better prepared to handle the next one. Read back through the posts and check out the water treatment therapy, O2 therapy, etc., etc., i.e. spend some time here and learn. Also very interesting is Gary G's research on the seratonin theories and hypothalmus stuff. He's really onto something here.
