Mark, Following is a copy of a posting I made to this site last July. After some research and trial and error, I will start immediately on 20 mg. slow release when my next episode begins. The stuff made me feel a bit wierd but seems to have helped.
Here's the post
.......I am 39. Have suffered C/H since 18. Have tried most of the meds and many meds in combo. Recently thought that Prednisone was the answer to my prayers for relief from the grotesque and incessant pain. But after a second try at Prednisone during this current episode ( began 6-23 ) the monster reappeared with as much fury as ever. My G.P. suggested Sansert but I feared the side effects. Was ready to fill the Rx when I read Dr. Mellicks postings on RITALIN. I was fascinated enough that I faxed the posting to my doc that morning ( 7-31-98 ) and offered my self as a trial patient. He agreed the same day and I began taking 10mg. 3 times daily on 8-1. Have not had a cluster attack since although it took a few days for my body to adjust to the Rx. Normally my episodes reach a peak then taper off for a few weeks before reluctantly leaving me to pick up the mayhem left in it’s wake. But when I started the Ritalin therapy I was still at near full intensity of this episode. I remain guardedly optimistic and grateful to have my life back. Many many thanks to my attentive G.P. Dr. Barry Jarvis in Eugene, Oregon. To Dr. Mellick for openly sharing his info with us. To my Family for their patient support. To D.J. for providing this remarkable forum. And to my friend Dr. Marc.
That we need not suffer in ignorance nor in solitude is a blessing unparalleled.
Pain free nights and days to all!
Will try to respond to any queries re: my experience w/Ritalin
