I am a 41 year old..(happy b'day to me today!!!)...6-0 180 lb male. When my cycle starts I go on 1200 mg lithium a day. Unmedicated I get hit 2 to 3 times a day and in mid cycle I'm hitting kip 9's and 10's. With lithium I go days sometimes weeks at a time without a single attack. The attacks that break thru the lithium are usuaaly because I was stupid and used a trigger, alcohol, screwing up sleep cycles etc. The only affect I or my wife and kids have noticed is that for the firt 2 weeks or so I sleep a little more and am a tad more lethargic. That wears off and then I don't even feel it. I would caution your hubby that the therapeutic affect requires that you maintain a level in your sytem so the hit and miss approach of taking it when you feel you need it could substantially reduce it's effectiveness. I resisted it or yers because of the negative conotation people had of "lithium". It saved my sanity, hope it does the same for your hubby.
Be at peace JoeS
