Sometimes just writing your feelings down...or that little goodbye letter is healing in itself...even if you don't mail it..It can bring closure to many things...whether the person is alive or deceased... I did that with my mom in recent years...as she died when I was 8 years old and to young to really understand..and It has been a healing process of writing that I forgive her for dying etc... I am now 33 years old..So it was a long time coming...and those letters also make you aware of all the hurt etc...and I don't think you can fully heal from them until you have gone through the "grief" period...
This "grief" period can be for anything from relationships to dealing with disabilities to job losses etc...
Trust me that if they aren't gonna stick with you through the bad times they aren't worth it.. i am sure that you will find a special person who will understand all that you go through...and will support you unconditionally with the crap that comes with all this...
Best of luck in the future and hope the letter brings much healing...
