I am an RN and know a lot about pain meds. Oxycontin is a 8-12 hour release of the same chemical that is in Percocet. If you need it, you will have to see a specialist (Back M.D.) or try an Anethesiologist at a pain clinic. Your general M.D. usually is too afraid to give it out. If your back hurts you so much that you need Oxycontin, you might have a disc problem. Be ready for a whole shit load of tests, ie. MRI ect.... FYI, Don't be afraid to ask your M.D. for what you want!! Be demanding, you are the one in pain and there are med's that will allow you to function. The FDA would not have approved it if it did not work. Good Luck, J
