In the past several years, we have seen an increase in the development
and spread of Internet viruses. Viruses are actually software
programs, usually transmitted in e-mail attachments, which are
unknowingly opened by the e-mail recipient. These programs are capable
of inserting themselves into a computer's operating system, and will
start to perform whatever function the virus creator designed. Some of
these viruses are hoaxes, others are merely irritating, while still
others are quite sophisticated and destructive, having the potential to
cause serious problems to PC hard drives, Internet websites, and large
networks.
