but I think I know why the CH's wake you up from a sound sleep. Cluster headaches are definately associated with dilated blood vessels. When we go to sleep it takes about 45 mins. to an hour to reach the REM stage of sleep. At that time our breathing slows because we are in a deep sleep. As the breathing slows the oxygen level in our blood drops causing the blood vessels to dilate in an attempt to supply more oxygen to our body. The next step is a CH attack.
