I am sure what makes here angry is the CH, the fact that you don't get them just reminds her that she is not free.
About wanting to be alone, a CH is so painful that the sufferer will resort to anything for relief, this includes rituals that may appear very odd to the casual observer. Also, the last thing you want is people sitting there not knowing what to do, they can be alot of work.
I think it is great you are so understanding of a CHer you are researching it, she is very lucky.
