Awakened at 5:30 a.m. with a cluster headache. It is now 2:00p.m. and the headache still lives. I happen to be one of the lucky individuals to also suffer from Narcolepsy. After 20 years of no treatment for Narcolepsy I began taking Ritalin to control the sleep attacks. The Ritalin, in my case, never seemed to have any impact on the frequency of cluster headaches which I have experienced for the past 35 years. Hope I haven't rained on your parade. Good luck with your search for a cure. I do, however, experience some success with Propranolol HCL taken as a prophylactic medication to control the incidence of cluster headaches. Taking 40mg twice daily has reduced the incidence of cluster headaches from almost daily to about once a month. Propranolol HCL is one of many Beta Channel Blockers commonly prescribed for cardiac patients; but in much higher dosages to control heart rate.
