Chronic is officially when:
1. You have no remission of longer than a fortnight in any twelve month period and
2. That remission is when you are drug free.
So, three weeks off in one year while still taking meds means you are still chronic, but fifteen days when not taking anything to prevent ch means you have become episodic.
