Hi Vickie
The diet that helped me tremendously sounds so simple and incredible that I think nobody believed me, when I posted it to this message board in august 98.
During my last episode of CH I noticed that most attacks started about 90 minutes after I had eaten something (usually at 2 p.m., 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.), a fact that let me suspect a connection between the food and the attacks. I began to make experiments and found that I only had headaches if I had taken any kind of sugar (glucose, fructose, lactose etc.).
I stopped immediately to eat sweets, chocolate, fruit, milk-food etc. To drink I only took pure or bubbling water, coffee or tea (both without sugar and milk). It was about the same diet as with diabetes except starch which I could eat without problems.
I had to be on that sugarless diet for 5 weeks, then the cluster episode ended. During this time I only had light headaches when by mistake there was sugar in the food or if I intentionally ate e.g. some fruit to find out if the episode still continues.
I think that a simple coincidence can be excluded because I could test my theory day for day during 5 weeks.
Stay pain free
Urs
