He won't get high if he takes the dose that is being recommended --- about a gram of dried mushrooms. This is enough to feel a slight buzz, but far from what is required to "trip". It is sort of like the difference between drinking two beers at dinner or guzzling a fifth of tequila... no comparison whatsoever, is there?
As for being tested, psilocybin (the active ingredient) is completely gone from the body in under twenty-four hours, even if the amount taken was five grams or more. Besides, routine drug tests do not check for psilocybin or LSD, they test for barbiturates, amphetamines, alcohol, cocaine and marijuana. Tests that look for LSD and psilocybin are VERY expensive, since they require extremely sophisticated detection apparatus due to the fact that the amount of substance in the body is so incredibly tiny, and breaks down so quickly and completely.
These amounts are so tiny that even with a test designed specifically to look for them, a blood sample is normally required, not a urine sample. And even then, if it has been about eighteen hours since the mushrooms were taken, the test will show negative.
I am not trying to change his mind, simply providing information that he didn't have previously.
