Karen, glad you are posting again, but sorry it's because your husband is worse. He seems to be prescribed the more common preventatives, even though perhaps you should contact his dr about increasing the verapamil level. It took at least two weeks for it to become effective for Lee, but he's been pain free for a week now. He's now on 400 mg. which is not that high. Did his dr mention imitrex. It has worked so well for Lee when he was having the breakthroughs. Also, cold has helped--ice packs, etc. druing the attacks. Some people have had success with strong coffee or caffeinated soda. I started giving Lee coke or pepsi to drink. What works for some doesn't seem to help others, but when our loved one is in this much pain, we're willing to try almost anything to take this pain away. Hope something will work for your husband. Keep us posted. Joy
