Hi Katrina,
I don't know what helps the most, but at the first vague hint of a headache, I stop drinking completely (I'm not a heavy drinker -- 2 to 3 vodkas before dinner, never any beer or wine etc.) and I don't resume drinking until I'm absolutely certain the HAs are gone. It's a delicate subject, I know, but from my own experience, I stay as far away from alcohol as I can (and I can) when in a cycle. It's certain, instant poison for me.
Also, I tried topamax, which didn't work for me at all (no side effects, though) but I do know it has helped a lot of folks here.
In truth, I think my year long cycle just dissipated for no reason known to me or to my neurologist, and they'll no doubt come right back for exactly the same unknown reasons. I will say that I was on verapamil (420) for the entire time, and still take 240 a day for the past pain-free year and O2 was the great, if temporary, liberator and best friend. I think my Dr.was about to try DHE injections to try to break the cycle.
Fat lot of help I am, right, as it's probably all ancient history to you.
Ken
