I had my first cluster-headache attack in the
summer of 1956. I came very close to committing
suicide. The pain was simply beyond belief. Since
then, the clusters have struck in every season of
the year. The only thing that has stayed the same
is the indescribable agony and the fact that the pain
is always on the right side of my head. This horror
just refuses to let itself be pinned down. Each of
us suffers in his/her own special way. I hate to
throw cold water on your theory, but forty years
of dealing with the monster has taught me only one
thing: we must have the strongest constitutions of
anyone on the face of the earth to be able to go
through this time after time after time and still
survive to suffer again.
