Here is an extract from a recent email. The person concerned asked me to post this on their behalf. They aren't comfortable with the world knowing about their illicit youth:
I have suffered from ch for over 20 years, they started when I was 13 or 14, back then noone would believe me. Neither
my pain or symptoms were recognized by the few Dr.s and people I spoke with. I was downing 15-20 otc meds daily
(tylenol es mostly) As I entered my late teens (around 18) I began an experimentation with illicit drugs (not for ch, just
what kids will do you know) I can say this for the following: Marijuana had no effect on ch either in frequency or
abortive. Same with cocaine, hash, nitrous oxide and various others. However, there was a period of time in the late
80's and early 90's where I got into psychedelic drugs like mushrooms and acid. I never actually put this together until
I started reading the post on this site but during that period I cannot recall suffering from one episode. Since at that
time I had not officially been diagnosed with this dreaded disease I did not relate the consumption of these drugs with
the absence of theses ch. I'm betting that the reason I had those few nicew years was due to my use of these drugs.
This story virtually echos my own experience, except the person concerned didn't make the connection at the time. I'm not surprised, I thought it was a longshot myself :)
