Very interesting. It sure does sound like cluster. I'm a perfect example of someone who was misdiagnosed as having migraine. The diagnosis came from the Chief of Neurology at Scripps Clinic at the time. Looking back on it, I'm amazed at the misdiagnosis. I presented with classic cluster symptoms. If I were to hear someone describing those symptoms, I'd suspect cluster immediately. In fact, after I was this doctor's patient for years, he "passed me on" to a younger associate doctor. This new doctor took about 2 minutes to diagnose me with cluster. I suffered needlessly for years because of the original misdiagnosis. The chief doctor had me taking Darvon. That was it! I would supplement this with Excedrin. One night, I took so many Excedrin that I had some kind of attack and had to call the paramedics. I remembering calling the chief neurologist in hysterics, begging for help. At the time, I was about 20, a full-time student at UCLA, and in unbearable pain much of the time. He was totally without compassion.
