my husband was diganosed with cluster headaches by a neurologist on friday. i had taken him to the emergency room on tuesday and they did a CAT scan and spinal tap to rule out aneurism. the neurologist gave me the imitrex injection kit today to give my husband but by the time i got home with it, his pain had diminished.
i'm wondering if the diagnosis of cluster headaches can be made without a full neurological exam-the neurologist saw my husband on an emergency-type basis (our primary doctor got us in to see him very quickly on friday), checked his eyes and "poked" him in various places checking for numbness i guess-but didn't spend very long with him, taking his medical history, etc. he did give a prescrip. for imitrex and varapamil, which only worked one night when my husband took it before the onset of the headache.
i found this site through a general search on cluster headaches and have read a lot of posts that describe similar attacks like my husband has. thank you.
