There is abundant anecdotal evidence on this board (and some in other forums, too) that indole-based hallucinogens, specifically psilocybin and LSD, are extremely effective in stopping a cluster cycle dead in its tracks, in most cases requiring a single sub-hallucinogenic dose.

It has recently been suggested to me that ANY indole-based psychoactive substance would probably do the trick.

One in particular, mescaline, has been suggested as an alternative to the more commonly used LSD and psilocybin, for one very important reason... legality.

Most of us think of mescaline as being found only in the peyote cactus. This doesn't help those of us who are not members of the Native American Church, who are allowed to possess and consume peyote as a religious sacrament.

BUT... mescaline is also found in the San Pedro cactus. The San Pedro cactus is perfectly legal in all fifty states. It also contains much lower levels of the associated nausea-inducing alkaloids found in peyote... those responsible for inducing the infamous "peyote puke".

There are many sites on the web that deal in entheogenic plants... those used for spiritual, ritualistic, or medicinal purpose... that supply San Pedro cactus.

I am fortunate enough to live in a country where there are no laws addressing the possession of psilocybe mushrooms, so I have no need to experiment with anything else. I do understand, however, that many of the readers of this message board have concerns over obtaining a controlled substance, but would happily give it a shot if it were legal.

Well... here's your chance, folks!

It's late, I have to work tomorrow, and as I said earlier I have no personal need to research sources of the San Pedro thoroughly, so I can't provide any links for you at the moment. I can assure you, however, that I have come across MANY sites that offer it while researching psilocybes, since many of these sites sell both mushroom spores and San Pedro cactus. A half hour with a decent search engine should yield a wide variety of sites to choose from.

No guarantee that it would have the same spectacular effect as psilocybin or LSD, but if the theories of why psilocybin and LSD work are correct, then there is an excellent chance that mescaline would work too.

I think it's worth a shot.
