I have had several friends suggest this to me knowing that when I was 18 I was in an accident and have had neck pain ever since. My GP says I have discogenic disease which is a fancy way of saying my disc are dissolving. Even my GP says we can't rule this out. I am not so sure. It just doesn't sound right, but you aren't the first to ask this question.
As an aside: DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU WOMEN DON'T GET THESE.
