it sounds like you may have come to the same conclusion i did a few years ago. but the headches were too high a price to pay.. i loved my beer ...but like you said, enjoy the buzz while you can. i spent many hours trashing around in the frontseat of my car while the party contiued on inside. and your time estimate was pretty close too....15 minutes and the party is over :))
