I have suffered from virtully daily headaches (combination of cluster and tension?) for 30 years. During that time frame I have taken 2-4 Bayer or Bufferin or Advil per day. During the last 3 years, I have been taking Vicodin and Darvocet also, depending on the severity of the headache. The last few weeks, I have been taking 1-2 Vicodin per day, 1 Darvocet per day, and Imitrex 2-3 times per week.
I also suffer from occasional mild/moderate migraines for which I take Imitrex pills, which do an excellent job to remedy the pain.
My doctor was concerned about addiction to the Darvocet and Vicodin, and about rebound headaches, and asked me to try taking Neurontin (300mg twice a day). I have been on the Neurontin for 8 days, and other than taking 2 Advil each day (for a slight tension headache), I have been almost pain free from headaches for the first time in 30 years.
