Went to see Dr. Newman, head of St.Lukes/Roosevelt Headache Clinic in New York City. Really nice guy, liked him alot. He examined my husband and we filled him in on what was going on and for how long (we went prepared with charts and graphs etc.). He looked at my summary of medications my husband was taking and immediately said with needed to up the dosage of Depakote to 1000mg instead of the 750. He is also able to take imitrex 2x a day only if he has any clusters. Pretty much just what we were doing with the exception of the lower dosage of depakote. He also said you do not get rebounds from imitrex (my thoughts exactly). We were very comfortable with him. My husband has improved since taking Depakote (only 1-2 clusters per day), so we are hoping if that's keeping them in check on 750, 1000mg might make them go away. As soon as they are gone we will stop the Depakote. Sounds promising. Hopefully it will work.
