The reason that voter turnout was less than 50 % in the last election was not due to voter apathy, but due to the fact that both candidates sucked, and many people could not in good conscience bring themselves to vote for either one. I would be willing to wager a hefty sum that if there was an option "none of the above" on the ballot, voter turnout would be considerably higher. I would further wager that "none of the above" would probably garner between 15 and 20 % of the votes... quite possibly more.
This election has even less appealing candidates (hard as it is to believe) so my prediction is that voter turnout will be the lowest in history. Good! Maybe the Demopublicans will wake up and actually field some candidates worth voting for next time around. If this sounds naive, remember that it is coming from one who believes there may someday be a cure for clusters, too.
