This is my first visit to the site. I have suffered from cluster headaches all of my life. I am a 44 year old male. Typically, I get a spell of CH every other year, always in an even year. They last about 4 months on average. They are the worst in the last month or six weeks of the spell. I have had good success with Prednisone, Imitrex, and Sansert. I only take these medications during a spell.
Several months ago, I went to my GP for a routine physical. My blood pressure was slightly elevated. He put me on Atenolol. He had asked me about the other medications that I took and I told him about the Prednisone, Imitrex, and Sansert and about the CH problem. He said that Atenolol being a beta-blocker, it would probably help. My normal pattern is that the headaches start in summer, from June to maybe late August. I have had some symptoms of being in a cluster; vision problems, soreness on the right temple, etc. But I haven't had a full-blown cluster yet! I have to believe that it is the Atenolol working. I also started taking Feverfew a few spells ago, and I think that it lessened the severity of the headaches. I hope that this helps someone else out there.
