CH is not a life threatening ailment although it feels as though one could die when having one. There is not much you can do to help your pop while he is being attacked. Actually it is best to leave him alone. I know that when I am having CH that it takes alll my concentration to maintain some semblence of sanity. So just love him and when he is not hurting give him a hug.
